Las Vegas (KSNV) —
Turning to Netflix, we focus on David Fincher’s latest film, The Killer. Starring Michael Fassbender as a precise man of mayhem. A professional, paid to kill at any cost, his only concern is the unknown. And this comes to light when an unplanned circumstance makes him the target. Now he must protect his own and show those in power that hard feelings can go both ways. I loved this movie and enjoyed the inner monologue of this terse killer, Fassbender delivers a deadly wink and a nod. I give it an A grade.
Rushing back to the land of superheroes, we look to theaters and the movie The Marvels as it finally takes flight. Starring three heroes from the Marvel timeline, we follow a young Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel after her series, then we jump to the future after Monica Rambeau survives Wandavision, finally we pay tribute to Captain Marvel herself as we watch her fight the good fight solo floating through the cosmos. Finding each other through a strange connection, they grow and repair each other’s mistakes while fighting another Kree villain willing to kill for their own higher purpose.
While this all sounds great, the actual movie falls a bit short for me. Its release date had some timing and personal issues, so now this movie is out of sync with the current Marvel universe and feels more like a drop-in and less like a pillar to build on. This movie feels weighed down by anything but a good story. In the end, I’d give it a C and say that kids will enjoy it, but adults should wait until it hits streaming.
Finally, we turn a fun twist to the horror genre with the film It’s a Wonderful Knife. Loosely based on the beloved Christmas movie, we follow a young woman who somehow stops a masked killer and his killing spree. Unfortunately, this makes her a celebrity of sorts with all the positives and negatives therein. Watch the video above as the film’s director Tyler MacIntyre provides more information.
